Luis Silva
I’m Luis Silva, a licensed financial adviser (FSP1009370, FDRS membership FM6843) and the founder of MoneyPlan, an independent, fee-only advisory practice based in New Plymouth, New Zealand.
MoneyPlan doesn’t sell funds, policies, or investment products. I work independently, which means my advice isn’t tied to a bank, an insurer, or a fund manager with something to move. My role is to build you a clear, holistic plan first, so that whatever product decision comes next is actually the right one for your circumstances, not just the one that happened to be on offer.
Before founding MoneyPlan, I spent years working across engineering and operations roles in New Zealand’s energy, health, and industrial sectors, including Powerco, Taranaki District Health Board, Methanex New Zealand, and Winstone Pulp International. That background shapes how I approach financial planning: structured, evidence-based, and built around your actual data rather than a generic template.
I achieved financial independence for myself before age 50 by applying the same discipline I now bring to client plans: clarity on where money actually goes, deliberate structure, and decisions made for their own sake, not because someone was selling something.
I produce every Statement of Advice and client communication to Financial Markets Conduct Act 2013 standards, and I clearly distinguish my own role (planning, cash flow modelling, negotiation positioning) from the work of your accountant and solicitor. Where an insurance product genuinely is the right fit, I refer implementation to licensed broker partners; I don’t hold an insurance licence myself, and I don’t take a commission for the referral.
